In 1963, the third grade students of the Civil Engineering Department of the Middle East Tech. Uni. made a survey trip to the Ereğli Iron Steel Factory which was under construction.

Huge excavation machines that straightened hills, concrete facilities, mobile cranes, tower cranes, pile-driving equipment, etc. were all very interesting and exciting to the engineers-to-be. One of the students was particularly interested in the pile-driving equipment.

His questions focused on this equipment of which he took numerous detailed pictures. When he found out that the contractor who carried out the pile-driving task was foreign, he asked himself thoughtfully why a Turkish company was not able to do this job. That day, the fate of the young man was drawn. As a result of that day's influence, he continued his graduate studies in Soil Mechanics. When he graduated, he preferred to do his military service although he had been awarded a scholarship at the University of Texas, USA.

During his military service, where he worked as engineer officer at the Commandment of Naval Forces, he was particularly interested in pile-driving jobs on land and in the sea, and examined them meticulously.

When he completed his military service, he began life as a free-lance contractor. Numerous water supply and water disposal systems and facilities, ten thousands of square metres of building constructions, road and airport commissions… All of these seemed secondary jobs to the young engineer. These jobs were only a tool to him… His main aim was to save money for pile-driving equipment which was very expensive. In 1975 his dreams came true, and he completed his first jetty construction. Similar tasks came one after the other. Ten thousands of pile-driving, numerous marine constructions, a lot of equipments he designed himself… He had achieved his ideal. Later on, his main fields became marine constructions, pile-driving on land and in the sea and design of special equipment.

The name of this young engineer was ŞENER ARDA. Pioneering lots of innovations, following technological developments enthusiastically, using all kinds of machinery and equipment and explaining these to his employees, working at times on a 45-metre-high tower, at times 20 metres under water during his 40-year-career as an engineer, Şener Arda is an engineer who has unified his profession with his life. His hobby, entertainment, joy and pride is his profession.

Money, wealth, fame and reputation have all secondary importance to him. He thinks of himself as having received the greatest award when he achieves a challenging innovation.
